My Fools Journey
Why I Started Tarot
It’s simple, really, I've always been drawn to the misunderstood, the mysterious, the magical.
As a child, I experienced psychic phenomena I couldn’t explain, and deep down I longed to reconnect with that part of myself.
For my birthday, my best friend took me to a psychic at a little shop called Reflections Books. After my reading, I waited for her while she had hers. The tarot decks on the shelves seemed to hum with energy. I started asking the clerk about her favorite decks and books. She looked at me and said, without hesitation:
"You have the gift of sight, don’t you? You’ve known things before they happened."
I was stunned, she had read me more clearly than the psychic had. She pulled a Classic Rider-Waite-Smith deck and a book on reversals from the shelf and said, "You should get these. I’ll give you a discount." Skeptical but curious, I bought them.
When I got home, I dove into studying… until life happened. The deck sat untouched for over a year. Then, when I moved out on my own, I brought it with me. That summer, it kept calling from the shelf until I picked it up again. I read for friends occasionally, but mostly for myself, quietly, afraid of judgment.
Then 2020 happened.
The world shut down, but my intuition came alive. I connected with my cards more deeply than ever before. When gatherings returned, I brought tarot with me, to hangouts, family events, even bars, reading for anyone curious enough to ask. People would leave in shock, tears, or goosebumps:
"That was so accurate it’s spooky."
"You’re giving me chills."
"How did you know that?"
The truth was simple: I just told the story the cards revealed, speaking to the part of them that lived just beneath the surface.
Eventually, the requests became too frequent to give away freely. I began offering readings via Zoom, casually at first, until one day, a tarot reader named Chris Bennett (The Tarot Medium) found my Instagram. He messaged me after seeing a post about burnout:
"You could read tarot full-time."
At first, I didn’t believe him. But his warmth, advice, and encouragement lit a fire in me. I knew it was time.
So I stepped into my own Fool’s Journey, leapt into the unknown, and met my inner magician, Empress, High Priestess…
And the rest… is still unfolding.
