Not So Typical Witch
10 Ways I’m Not a Conventional Witch And Why My Magic Is Still Deeply Real
By Chloe Lloyd, Psychic Tarot Reader & Celtic Witch
Witchcraft isn’t an aesthetic you put on, it’s a practice you live.
And as someone on the autism spectrum, comfort, sensory awareness, and personal rhythm are the foundation of my magic.
I’m a casual dresser 80% of the time. I drink Coke Zero. I wear hoodies. I miss full moon rituals sometimes. I’m still a witch and a damn good one.
Today I’m sharing 10 ways my practice doesn’t fit the “conventional witch” stereotype and why that makes my magic even more sovereign, grounded, and mine.
1. My Veils Are Ball Caps and Touques
I don’t wear lace veils, flowing scarves, or elaborate headwraps.
I wear:
Ball caps
Beanies
Touques (oh Canada 🍁)
And you know what? They’re magically effective.
I cleanse and charge my hats. I add a drop of protective oil inside the brim. The shade helps with light sensitivity under harsh lighting. It’s sensory-friendly, grounding, and intentional — which is what real energetic shielding is all about.

2. I’m a Sweats-and-Hoodies Witch
Sure, I have whimsical skirts, fae shawls, and magical boots that make me feel like a boss witch.
But daily life? It’s jeans, sweatpants, tees, and New Balance runners.
Comfort keeps my nervous system regulated, and my magic sharp.
You don’t need to look like a fantasy witch to practice like one.

3. I Don’t Do a Full Moon Ritual Every Month
Life is cyclical. The moon is cyclical. I am cyclical.
Some moons I’m in full ritual mode.
Other moons? I’m tired, neurospicy, overwhelmed, or simply not in the headspace.
But I always pull three cards and jot down a few thoughts.
That’s still sacred.
It’s still devotion.
It’s still witchcraft.
4. I’m a Forever Student
Witchcraft isn’t a degree, it’s a lifelong unfolding.
I’m always evolving, unlearning, researching, deepening.
What makes you a witch isn’t how “advanced” you look.
It’s how intentionally you live.
5. I Don’t Need Tools… I Just Like Them
Tools inspire us. They uplift us. They enhance the magic already within.
But they aren’t required to be a real witch.
Intent + awareness = magic.

6. Kitchen Magic Can Be Grilled Cheese
Not all kitchen witchcraft must be elaborate herbal blends.
Sometimes kitchen magic is:
Cooking in a flow state
Pouring love into your food
Nourishing your body
Being present
And yes, sometimes it’s the best grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup ever made.
Here is a grilled cheese recipe I love <3
7. I Love Herbal Tea, But Also Coke Zero
I adore my intentional tea blends with cinnamon, mugwort, ginger, blue lotus…
But sometimes? It’s Coke Zero and rock music while cleaning on a tuesday afternoon
Both are valid expressions of self-care and life-force.
Witchcraft is not about natural purity.
It’s about intentional living.
My Favourite way to make tea is simple…. One teabag of celestial bengal spice herbal tea, one tsp mugwort and one blue lotus flower. Its sensual, warming, cozy and takes my visions and dreams to the next level
Even witches have bad days.
Hormones don’t care about moon phases.
Not every low energy moment is a hex or spiritual attack. Sometimes it’s just life.
You don’t stop being a witch when you’re tired.
Magic doesn’t disappear when your mood dips.
For instance I struggle a lot with PMDD and yes my practice helps and self care helps but it doesnt erase the underlying cause of my lows.
9. I Practice Through a Blend of Science & Mysticism
I love mysticism — tarot, energy work, astrology, herbalism.
And I equally love:
Psychology
Neuroscience
Philosophy
Earth science
My readings often merge the two.
Science and magic often tell the same story, through different languages.
And I am not the first to blend these worlds, although I wouldnt consider myself a skeptic I respect that some people are! and just because you are skeptical does not mean you cant enjoy a meaningful tarot practice
10. My Partner Isn’t a Witch, And That’s Perfectly Fine
He’s a regular guy.
He doesn’t practice.
But he respects me and supports my craft.
Our relationship is still magical, aligned, and whole.
Witchcraft doesn’t require a witchy partner.
It requires authenticity.
Final Thoughts
Witchcraft doesn’t always “look” witchy.
It looks like intention.
It looks like comfort.
It looks like self-awareness.
It looks like evolution.
It looks like YOU.
Magic is a practice, not an aesthetic.

So Remember….. If you love nature, practice divination and witchcraft you are a witch… simple as that.
